But must we not ask ourselves the question, who else lives on the other side of the sky?

Several strangely glowing orbs have crashed into the Quebec landscape. Half buried in the scorched earth, they sit patiently, awaiting closer inspection. What are they, where have they come from, what do they contain, are they dangerous, do they have a meaning or a message for us?

Quebec has a rich history as a meeting place where cultures, politics and even armies have collided. This proposed installation takes that concept one step further by presenting a collision of worlds, the first interactions between an alien civilization and our own.

Within the theme of “Meetings and Encounters”, the visitor is asked to consider just what such an encounter with an alien culture would mean. Would it be the end of the world as we know it or would it herald the dawn of a brave new era?

Designed to be both thought provoking and entertaining, the large polymer hemispheres will be almost optically perfect. Inside, shrouded in mist are a selection of plant like forms that are unfamiliar to the eye. They will be chosen to startle and force the visitor to question just what a plant is.

At night the spheres take on a whole new persona, emitting an eerie light, they pulse with an inner energy drawing the visitor to gaze upon them.
